Sabías que existían leyes romanas regulaban la homosexualidad. Ellas son la “Lex Scantinia”, “Lex Iulia” y “Lex Iulia de vi publica” , su función era la de regular la homosexualidad entre hombres libres. Un hombre, que disfrutaba siendo penetrado era llamado pathicus o catamita, considerándosele pasivo y en consecuencia era presentado como hombre débil y femenino, con una fuerte connotación despreciativa. Estas leyes sobre la homosexualidad no se aplicaban cuando eran los esclavos o los bárbaros quienes la practicaban, pues no eran considerados como seres humanos. Si un romano se dejaba penetrar por cualquiera de ellos, era mirado con desdén.


Did you know that there were Roman laws regulating homosexuality. They are the "Lex Scantinia", "Lex Iulia" and "Lex Iulia de vi publica", their function was to regulate homosexuality among free men. A man who enjoyed being penetrated was called pathicus or catamite, being considered passive and consequently he was presented as a weak and feminine man, with a strong contemptuous connotation. These laws on homosexuality did not apply when it was slaves or barbarians who practiced it, since they were not considered as human beings. If a Roman allowed himself to be penetrated by any of them, he was looked down upon.
